Day 1

At 9am, we will pick you from our office (or from your hotel or guesthouse, if going in a private group) and take you to Villa Treasure, our guesthouse and adventure travel dispatch point. There, you will be given a bicycle and helmet. Our guide will help you make any necessary adjustments to the bicycle to ensure your comfort and ease of riding.
At this point, you can place any belongings that you would like to have with you for the day (but not carry yourself) in our support vehicle, which will never be too far away in case you need something from it, or would like to take a break from biking.

Once we bike out of the city, it will only be about 20 minutes until our first stop. Most of the day’s journey will be on a well-paved road, but we will venture off it to visit Ban Xang Khong, a weaving village, where you can experience the entire process from silk worm to finished product. Our guide will walk you through the steps, and you’ll be able to handle the products in their varied stages of completeness.
Afterwards, you have the opportunity to purchase some finished good from the small shop where they sell the textiles made in the village. We’ll also get to see how sa paper is made in Ban Xieng Lek.
You’ll see the Mulberry bark drying in the sun, the first step in the process, but also the pulp spread into sheets drying in racks, the final step in the process. You can purchase this natural paper as well. Our support vehicle will be there to collect your items.
We will continue on the dirt road to Ban Don Mai, a 25-minute ride to the village where we meet up with the paved road once again. Riding north on this road for around 3 kilometers, we’ll arrive in Ban Phonesai. We’ll take a short break here to look at this village’s different bamboo products, such as baskets and spoons, and funny oddities. After this, we will set off on a longer haul. We will bike about 2 hours to Ban Hat Khaw. Along the way, we’ll pass farms of different varieties, and a few small roadside markets, where you can stop for some fruit if you need a snack.
We will stop in Ban Hat Khaw for a leisurely picnic lunch. You’ll have some time to rest and relax after eating. Then, we will walk to the small pier on the Nam Ou River. Here, we will jump in our kayaks, and set off down the river.
After two hours of paddling, we’ll arrive Nam ou Riverside resort where we will spend the night Your guide will help cook you a traditional Lao meal, and some villagers will gather together to bless you with a Baci ceremony, where strings are tied on your wrists to call your spirits back to your body. This is an ancient Lao practice, in the Animist tradition. With full bellies, you will surely sleep very well. |
